Rachel Newton

King's Place, London

17 March 2019

I've written too much about Rachel Newton already. I have seen her play many times (three times just this weekend!) and I don't know what else there is to say. Whether she's singing unaccompanied, singing with the harp, or just playing, her whole set is a perfect balance of beautiful melodies and jaw-dropping virtuosity. In a set that lasts about 70 minutes she plays music from across her four solo albums, and includes (almost) all the essential songs I would want her to play — Fairy Lullabye, Rung 2, The Eggshell Brewery/Up the Lum, all the scary ballads about people getting murdered, and of course encoring with Jolene, which is becoming her signature.

I don't have anything left to say. She is one of my absolute favourite musicians. Best concert I have ever seen.
